Mini Food Sculpture Shot Glasses

Two of my dearest friends have recently celebrated their 21st birthdays.  My nicknames for them are Glenny-Pie Sweetheart and Quesadilla (don't even ask) and so I decided to channel that into some personalized shot glasses!

I am absolutely in love with the glasses themselves.  They are mini-mason jar shooters from Bed Bath and Beyond, which I got 6 for $9.99.  I have yet to decide what to do with the remaining four.  They're so freakin cute I don't wanna use them!

Anyways, back to it.

I created the mini sculptures from some Crayola air-dry clay and then painted them with acrylic paint.

(Warning: None of these explanations are gonna be technical so bear with me.)

For the pie:
1. Roll a chunk of clay flat with a rolling pin.
2. Cut that flattened chunk into thin strips (for the pie lattice)
3. Make a ball and cut it in half. (Size will depend on how large you want the pie to be.  I had to make mine relatively small to fit on the glass and avoid tipping it.)
4. Start to criss cross the strips over the half of the ball you want to use (curved side up).
5. When you like the layout, roll a thin strip of clay and wrap around the entire outer edge of the pie top.  Press around edges to bind everything.
6. Make a little berry for the top if you want.
7. Paint.

For the quesadilla:
1. Roll two chunks of clay flat with a rolling pin.
2. Cut out two equal sized triangles. (One from each piece)
3. Make odd little shapes/strings for the cheese/peppers/filling and layer them atop one of the triangles.
4. Layer the second triangle upon the fillings and press down.  This will create the lumpy look and give the quesadilla some texture.
5. Paint.

I attached the sculptures to the glasses via hot glue gun and Voila!

I doubt anyone will need to replicate these haha but I thought they came out pretty cute!

Make anything quirky lately?? Please share!

Happy Crafting, people!
